bead talk and bead talk

Apr 11 2008

I spent a bunch of the past week learning how to create a digital slide presentation in iweb Keynote. Turns out it's pretty easy (if you already know how to use your digital camera, set up good lighting, crop and edit photos in Photoshop, size and lay out text and spell pretty well and oh, yeah, make the beads) and pretty cool and I managed to pull off a decent artist's talk for the docents' luncheon of the Corning Museum of Glass. The lunch was yummy, the docents were delightful and my job there is done, Now I'm itching to get back in my studio and make stuff, but this weekend I'll be teaching a workshop instead. Poor me. I have too many fun options in my life. Teaching workshops is really one of my favorite things so even though I'll have to put off making beads myself until monday, I'll have the pleasure of seeing my students make beautiful beads and brilliant progress. I could hardly ask for more.

If I'm very organized I'll remember to bring my camera to class and shoot some workshop photos. Then you'll be able to see my excellent students and their work here in a few days.

No, Really, Launch Day!

Apr 09 2008

As technology is always a little more convoluted than I think it's going to be, I thought I was launching this site last week, but now it's really, really launched and out there on the net. Hooray! and a special thanks to Artisan's Accomplice for all the good support. It's been quite the learning curve and promises to continue in that uphill direction, but hey, we like to use our brains, right? It's good to stretch them regularly. Here are some pretty beads to look at for now.

Launch Day!

Mar 27 2008

Well it just seems like it's time to stop pussyfooting around and go ahead and launch this website. I've been fiddling with it for weeks now trying to get things just so and have finally realized it's going to be an ever changing and ongoing process, like most things in life, so why not take the plunge and send it out into the world. Take a look at my work and come back soon to see what's new. I'll be adding more images and text as fast as I can and in a few weeks I'll even have a shopping page where you can veiw and purchase beads and jewelry. Thanks for visiting!

The sillier the better...

Feb 22 2008

Here's another little goof: Girl with pink hair. A lampworked glass head made off the end of a mandrel so there's a hole up into the neck, but not through the top. The black section below the collar is flattened so the paperclay body can be formed over it and the head won't spin. Now that's silly! She only has one tooth.

Here she is with her body:

Tuesday in February

Feb 19 2008

Because it's February and because the days are short and grey, I doubt my work and doubt my self and think there should be something more. Since I'm fortunate and sometimes smart enough to know that, I've decided it's time to get down off my high horse, stop taking myself so seriously and get truly silly. My February resolution: Make the silliest, brightest, happiest, lightest stuff I can think of. Here's some:

Day 1

Feb 18 2008

Today I'm working on setting up my Blog and Gallery. There's nothing like learning something new to remind me what a small percentage of my brain I'm used to using.
